Wealth Percentile Calculator (by Age)

Where does your net worth stand against your age peers? This calculator uses Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances data to show your wealth percentile within your age bracket. Surprising for almost everyone — both for those who think they're "behind" and those who think they're "ahead."

How the Wealth Percentile Calculator Works

The data behind the percentile

Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF), released triennially, is the gold standard US wealth dataset. We bucket by age (under 35, 35–44, 45–54, 55–64, 65–74, 75+) and report the percentile your reported net worth falls into.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this US-only?

Yes for now. SCF is US-specific and the most reliable wealth dataset. International equivalents (UK Wealth and Assets Survey, Eurosystem HFCS) exist but use different methodology — coverage may come later.

Is net worth a good measure?

It's the standard for wealth comparison but doesn't capture everything — pension entitlements, expected inheritances, human capital (future earnings), and quality-of-life vary widely at the same net worth. Useful as a benchmark, not a verdict.

Does this include home equity?

Yes. SCF reports total net worth — financial assets + real estate − debts. Many people's wealth is heavily concentrated in home equity, which the dataset reflects.
